Aim and Scope

This journal addresses the needs of medical sciences instructors, professionals and administrators through the country and the world. This journal presents new experiences of teaching methods, assessment and evaluation, and serves as a forum for communication between medical sciences professionals, instructors and policy makers.

The objective of the journal is to improve the knowledge of the researchers and accountability to academic society. This can lead the educational institutes to applying more effective teaching and learning methods.

The journal provides reports of innovation and research in the following domain:

Educational management, educational planning, teaching and learning, educational technologies, assessment and evaluation, organizational performance assessment, accreditation, continuing education and professionalism & ethics.

Submission Process: Manuscripts should be sent through the on-line submission system.

This journal doesn't charge authors for peer review process, publication processing and accepting articles.

Peer Review Process: The articles are primarily evaluated by our statisticians and internal screeners who check the articles for any methodological flaws, format, and their compliance with the journal’s instructions. Then a submission code will be allocated and all the future contacts should be based on this code. Through a double-blind review, the articles will be reviewed by at least two external (peer) reviewers.

Ethical Considerations:

The journal is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). COPE’s flowcharts and guidelines are approached in confronting any ethical misbehavior. The Journal also follows the guidelines mentioned in the Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals
issued by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) (http://www.icmje.org/#privacy).

The research that involves human beings (or animals) must adhere to the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki. (http://www.wma.net/en/30publications/10policies/b3/index.html).

Informed consent:

All patients and participants of the research should be thoroughly informed about the aims of the study and any possible side effects of the drugs and intervention. Written informed consent from the participants or their legal guardians is necessary for any such studies. The Journal reserves the right to request the related documents.

Authorship:

Based on the newly released Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals, by the ICMJE, “an Author” is generally considered to be someone who meets the following conditions 1, 2, 3, and 4.

1-Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND

2-Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content; AND

3-Final approval of the version to be published; AND

4-Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Plagiarism: 
The authors are not allowed to utilize verbatim text of previously published papers or manuscripts submitted elsewhere. All submitted manuscript will be checked for possible similarity in any part of the work by at least two softwares. Those with more than 25% similarity to published papers or online materials will, at the editor's discretion, be rejected or returned to authors for rewriting followed by re-review before a final decision is made.

Copyright: The author is required to obtain and submit the written original permission letters for all copyrighted material used in his/her manuscripts. Your article will not be published unless a Copyright Assignment Form has been signed and received by JAMP(Available form http://jamp.sums.ac.ir/index.php/JAMP/pages/view/Forms).

Retraction Policy: The JAMP follows the COPE flowchart for retraction of a published article (http://publicationethics.org/guidelines) to determine whether a published article should be retracted.

Manuscript preparation:

To send electronically, manuscripts should be in Word Document and well-written in English. Please double check the article for spelling, structure and format mistakes. To distinguish different parts of the article, it is recommended to use the font Times New Roman size 12 for the body, size 12 bold for subheadings, size 14 for headings and size 14 bold for the title. What follows is a series of recommendations on how the article should be like in order to process it faster and more efficiently.

Use only standard abbreviations; use of nonstandard abbreviations can be confusing to readers. Avoid abbreviations in the title of the manuscript. The spelled-out abbreviation followed by the abbreviation in parenthesis should be used on first mention unless the abbreviation is a standard unit of measurement.

Figures (photographs, graphs and diagrams) and tables should be submitted as separate files. Tables should be typed using single-spacing. Figures and tables should be numbered consecutively in the order of their first citation in the text (separate numbering for figures and tables). Arabic numbers (e.g. Figure 1, Table 2), and their desired position in the text should be indicated. With respect to tables, authors should place explanatory matter in footnotes, not in the heading, using * symbol. Tables should be left justified with simple style. They should have only inside borders and any colored row or column.

Authors should declare in the cover letter that all figures of their manuscripts are original; otherwise the original source of figures should be mentioned and reprint form must be uploaded in the attachment. All files of photographs must be 300 dpi or higher. Only black and white photographs are permitted.

2. Abstract:

An abstract summarizes, in one paragraph (usually), the major aspects of the entire paper in the following prescribed sequence:

  • the question(s) you investigated (or purpose), (from Introduction)
  • State the purpose very clearly in the first or second sentence.
  • the experimental design and methods used, (from  Methods)
  • Clearly express the basic design of the study.
  • Name or briefly describe the basic methodology used without going into excessive detail-be sure to indicate the key techniques used.
  • the major findings including key quantitative results, or trends (from Results)
  • Report those results which answer the questions you were asking
  • Identify trends, relative change or differences, etc.
  • A brief summary of your interpretations and conclusions (from Conclusion)
  • Clearly state the implications of the answers your results gave you.

The length of your Abstract should be kept to about 200-300 words maximum.

Keywords are used for indexing purposes; each article should provide three to five keywords selected from the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH).http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/

Introduction

The introduction section should be written in a way that is accessible to researchers without specialist knowledge in that area and must clearly state - and, if helpful, illustrate - the introduction to the research and its aims. Reports of clinical research should, where appropriate, include a summary of a search of the literature to indicate why this study was necessary and what it aimed to contribute to the field. The section should end with a brief statement of what is being reported in the article.

Methods

The methods section should include the design of the study, the setting, the type of participants or materials involved, a clear description of all interventions and comparisons, and the type of analysis used, including a power calculation if appropriate. Generic drug names should generally be used. When proprietary brands are used in research, include the brand names in parentheses in the Methods section.

For studies involving human participants a statement detailing ethical approval and consent should be included in the methods section.

Results

Results of statistical analysis should include. The Results section may also be broken into subsections with short, informative headings.

Preparing figures

Illustrations should be provided as separate files, not embedded in the text file. For each figure, the following information should be provided: Figure number (in sequence, using Arabic numerals - i.e. Figure 1, 2, 3 etc).

Formats

The following file formats can be accepted:

  • DOCX/DOC (single page only)
  • PNG (preferred format for photos or images)
  • TIFF
  • JPEG
  • BMP

Preparing tables

Each table should be numbered and cited in sequence using Arabic numerals (i.e. Table 1, 2, 3 etc.). Tables should also have a title (above the table) that summarizes the whole table; it should be no longer than 15 words. Tables should always be cited in text in consecutive numerical order. Columns and rows of data should be made visibly distinct by ensuring that the borders of each cell display as black lines. Commas should not be used to indicate numerical values. Color and shading may not be used; parts of the table can be highlighted using symbols or bold text, the meaning of which should be explained in a table legend.

Discussion

Compare your results with appropriate, relative and absolute risks or risk reductions, and confidence intervals. The discussion section may also be broken into subsections with short, informative headings.

Conclusions

This should state clearly the main conclusions of the research and give a clear explanation of their importance and relevance. Summary illustrations may be included.

Acknowledgements

Please acknowledge anyone who contributed towards the article by making substantial contributions to conception, design, acquisition of data, or analysis and interpretation of data, or who was involved in drafting the manuscript or revising it critically for important intellectual content, but who does not meet the criteria for authorship. Please also include the source(s) of funding for each author, and for the manuscript preparation. Authors must describe the role of the funding body, if any, in design, in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data; in the writing of the manuscript; and in the decision to submit the manuscript for publication. Please also acknowledge anyone who contributed materials essential for the study. If a language editor has made significant revision of the manuscript, we recommend that you acknowledge the editor by name, where possible.

The role of a scientific (medical) writer must be included in the acknowledgements section, including their source(s) of funding. We suggest wording such as 'We thank Jane Doe who provided medical writing services on behalf of XYZ Pharmaceuticals Ltd.'

Authors should obtain permission to acknowledge from all those mentioned in the Acknowledgements section.

Conflict of interest

All authors are requested to disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest including any financial,

Personal or other relationships with other people or organizations that could inappropriately influence, or be perceived to influence, their work. To prevent the information on potential conflict of interest for authors from being overlooked or misplaced, mention this information in the cover letter.

 

4. References

The journal of Advances in Medical Education and Professionalism follows the conventions of the Vancouver reference list system in which references are numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text. References should be identified in round brackets within the text, table headings and figure captions.

As a general rule, reference numbers should be placed outside full stops and commas and inside colons and semicolons.

An article with up to six authors should include all authors. If an article has more than six authors, only the first six need be given, followed by 'et al'. We recommend the use of Endnote tool for reference management and formatting. The Endnote referencing style software uses the Arabic number in brackets.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
